Body Image Therapy in Washington & Texas

You’ve spent so much of your life trying to make peace with your body — but it often feels like a battle you can’t win. You may look in the mirror and immediately notice what you want to change. Or maybe you’ve learned to disconnect completely — avoiding photos, intimacy, or even certain clothes because they make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin.

You might say things like, “I just want to feel okay in my body,” or “I’m tired of feeling this way.” And you deserve that peace — to feel at home in the body you live in every day.

Through body image therapy, we’ll explore how your relationship with your body formed, how shame or trauma may have shaped it, and how you can begin to rebuild a sense of safety, respect, and compassion for yourself.

Body image struggles often run deeper than appearance. They’re about safety, belonging, and the messages you’ve internalized about worth.

Does this sound like you?

You might benefit from therapy for body image if…

⟡ There’s consistent comparing your body to others

⟡ You’re feeling anxious about food, weight, or being seen

⟡ You avoid intimacy or touch because of how you feel in your body

⟡ You’re experiencing shame or guilt around appearance, eating, or exercise

⟡ You feel disconnected from your body or “numb” to it

⟡ Battling negative self-talk never seems to stop

How Therapy for Body Image Can Help You

You don’t have to keep fighting your body or punishing yourself to feel worthy. Therapy offers a space to understand where your body story began and how to start writing a new one — one built on respect, trust, and compassion.

In therapy, I’ll help you:

⟡ The cultural and systemic messages that shaped your beliefs about your body — from family, faith, media, and society at large

⟡ How trauma, perfectionism, and comparison have influenced how you relate to yourself

⟡ Ways to reconnect with your body’s sensations, cues, and needs in safe, empowering ways

⟡ Tools to quiet shame and build gentler self-talk

⟡ How to create boundaries with harmful narratives about beauty, health, and worth

Benefits of Therapy for Body Image

As you begin to see your body with more kindness and curiosity, you create space for peace — not perfection.

With support, you can begin to:

⟡ Feeling more relaxed and confident in their own skin

⟡ A decrease in shame and critical self-talk

⟡ More freedom around food, movement, and intimacy

⟡ A deeper connection to their body’s signals and emotions

⟡ Increased sense of self-worth beyond appearance

⟡ Stronger boundaries with social pressures and beauty ideals

Your body isn’t the problem — the systems and stories that taught you to distrust it are.
And therapy can help you begin to reclaim the body that’s always been yours.

Hi, I’m Cheyenne McGuire, LMFT, CST.

I take a systemic and narrative approach, helping clients explore the stories they’ve inherited about bodies, beauty, and worth — from family messages to religious teachings, social media, advertising, and broader cultural systems that profit from our insecurity.

Together, we’ll unpack these narratives and explore which ones you want to keep and which ones you’re ready to release. Our work is about giving you permission to define what health, beauty, and acceptance mean for you.

As a fat therapist, I also understand how it feels to move through a world that treats some bodies as more acceptable than others. I know the pain of internalized judgment and the courage it takes to unlearn it. My lived experience deeply informs my work — helping me hold space for clients with empathy, understanding, and respect for all bodies.

You’ll never be asked to “just love yourself.” Instead, we’ll move toward something more grounded — trust, neutrality, and compassion for the body that carries you through life.
